A speedy, skillful, and explosive attacking player, All-American Sophomore Sheldon Palmer led ECC's offensive attack last season with 18 goals and 12 assists for the nationally ranked Wolverines.
Palmer’s goal-scoring prowess for the 13-3-3 Wolverines led to his selection to the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All American third team, and the NJCAA Region 19, Division 1 First Team. He was also named to the Garden State Athletic Conference, Division I, First Team.
“Sheldon is a very crafty technical player who is able to raise the level of play of his attacking partners and inspire his teammates,” said Hugo Pierre, ECC head men’s soccer coach. “Sheldon always displays passion for the game and an infectious enthusiasm -- both on and off the field -- that fuel the team to excel. He is adept at dribbling and striking with both feet.”
As a freshman in 2009, Palmer’s 18 goals and 11 assists led a 16-3-3 Essex team to one of the most successful seasons in school history and a 5th place finish at NJCAA national championship. ECC was also Region 19 and Northeast District champions. Palmer was selected to the National Coach’s Association’s (NSCAA) All American First Team.
Palmer, an Accounting major with a 3.5 GPA, has drawn the interest of dozens of NCAA Division 2 and NAIA schools, as well professional clubs from the Major League Soccer (MLS).
