Special Award for Student Life Official

Jamil Graham

Jamil Graham has received a special invitation extended by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. The Assistant Director for Essex County College’s Student Life & Activities Office is one of 25 administrators from around the nation, and the only one from New Jersey, who will receive the Distinguished College Administrator Awards during PTK Catalyst 2019, the Society’s annual convention.

What makes this award extra special for Mr. Graham is that he was nominated by students. “For this to have come from our students truly means so much to me,” he said.

The Distinguished College Administrator Awards are presented to college vice presidents, deans, or directors serving at post-secondary institutions who have shown strong support of student success on their campus by recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and service among high-achieving students.

“When I received the news, I didn’t know whether to fist pump or cry,” said Mr. Graham, who can now smile about the news. “This is such a high honor and a testament as to the level of support Student Life has with PTK and all the College’s clubs and organizations.”

“Let me also extend my sincere congratulations for being selected as a recipient of the 2019 Distinguished College Administrator Award, Phi Theta Kappa’s award recognizing college administrators.   You truly deserve this award,” said Dr. Keith Kirkland, Dean of Student Affairs at Essex.

The convention is set for April 4-6 in Orlando, Florida.
