College Celebrates LGBTQ Pride Day

Under bright skies, the College held its first LGBTQ Pride Day on June 6, with well over 100 students and staff attending the event held outside the Center for Technology building.

Dr. Zoya McCants, Clinical Director for Student Wellness Services, said when she found out the College did not have an active club for LGBTQ students, she decided to organize a special pride day. The success of the event was overwhelming, she said.

With a theme of Educate & Celebrate, LGBTQ Pride Day is an excellent vehicle to both educate the College community and promote acceptance of all people, said Dr. McCants. Plus, it was a fun day, she added with a smile.

Among the most popular activities were face painting, henna, chair yoga, and “grab & go” bags sponsored by the College’s Student Food Pantry.

Working with Dr. McCants on the program were Associate Dean Patricia Slade and Assistant Director Jamil Graham, both from the Student Life & Activities Office, and Student Wellness Center Coordinator Patricia Vaden.
