- Be sure that you check which program or major you are in: Is it a transfer program (A.A. or A.S.) or a career program (A.A.S.)?
- Clarify your interests and goals by seeing a transfer counselor, a counselor or your academic advisor.
- Attend Transfer Workshops on campus.
- Come to the Transfer Center (RM 4100) to begin exploring the options available to you: reference guides, on-line college search, or catalogs.
- Begin identifying schools that have what you want. Talk to anybody and everybody who can give you accurate information.
- Read catalogs, brochures, or American Universities online college web sites. http://www.clas.ufl.edu/CLAS/american-universities.html.
- Initially identify at least 3 schools to write to for further information such as a catalog, application, and financial aid papers. Check their Web pages for more information.
- Find out if the four-year colleges you are interested in require a high school diploma. If so, and you are a non-high school graduate you MUST receive a GED before you will be eligible to transfer.
- Attend a Transfer Workshop if you have not already done so.
- Speak with college representatives at Transfer Day or during their individual visits.
- Attempt to visit the colleges you have chosen. If visiting is not possible, call their admissions offices with a list of questions you would like to have answered.
- Be aware of application and financial aid deadlines and apply as early as possible. Most colleges have a different deadline for International Students (F1 Visa) and there may be additional requirements or forms to be completed.
- Check with Enrollment Services Express to find out if your name is on the list for a graduation audit or ask your counselor for an unofficial audit.
- Send in your applications and recommendations to the colleges you have chosen. Arrange for your Transcripts to be sent from ECC, from any previous colleges you have attended and, if necessary, from your high school. Be sure your transcript reflects your most recent grades earned.
- Wait to hear from the colleges and respond to acceptances by the stated deadlines. Some schools may require an initial deposit to hold your admission status. Make sure you respond by sending your deposit in a timely manner.
